The Yusupov Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia

The Yusupov family have a long history, notably serving in the court of Ivan the Terrible. The ostentatious palace they commissioned in the mid eighteenth century gives a detailed insight into the way of life of that era as well as being the background to a number of seminal events in Russia's history. Tour guides at the palace are known for their excellent story telling and descriptions and will bring to life the story of Grigory Rasputin who was murdered by Prince Felix Yusupov who feared Rasputin's supposed supernatural powers.
